Today the European Union leaders signed the Lisbon Treaty. This treaty gives the EU the constitutional form of a state. These are the ten most important things the Lisbon Treaty does:

1. It establishes a legally new European Union in the constitutional form of a supranational European State.
2. It empowers this new European Union to act as a State vis-a-vis other States and its own citizens.
3. It makes us all citizens of this new European Union.
4. To hide the enormity of the change, the same name – European Union – will be kept while the Lisbon Treaty changes fundamentally the legal and constitutional nature of the Union.
5. It creates a Union Parliament for the Union’s new citizens.
6. It creates a Cabinet Government of the new Union.
7. It creates a new Union political President.
8. It creates a civil rights code for the new Union’s citizens.
9. It makes national Parliaments subordinate to the new Union.
10. It gives the new Union self-empowerment powers.

Via 180Grader:

HuT’terne går frem i “Palæstina”

Hizb ut-Tahrir: A Rising Force In Palestinian Territories
Jonathan Spyer – 12/14/2007
Demonstrations across the West Bank in protest of the Annapolis conference showcased the entry into the public eye of a new force in Palestinian politics – the pan-Islamic Hizb ut-Tahrir (Party of Liberation.) The party held a demonstration numbering 2,500 in Hebron, and one of its members was killed in subsequent clashes with Palestinian Authority police. Similar gatherings took place in other West Bank cities. Hizb ut-Tahrir’s slow emergence from eccentric obscurity has been a subject of note among observers of Palestinian affairs in recent years. The anti-Annapolis demonstrations are the latest stage in this process. These events may indicate deeper political currents – both in the West Bank and beyond.

In Islam there are so many superstitions, perhaps a book can be penned on this topic alone. Islamic superstition is endemic because Muhammad was an extremely superstitious person. Here is a brief list of a few outstanding Islamic Superstitions. Mind you, all these superstitious beliefs are from Muhammad, therefore, compulsory for all Muslims to adhere to them.

Allah sends eclipse (solformørkelse) to frighten the believers…(Sahih Bukhari, 2.18.167)

Angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or there are pictures…(Sahih Bukhari, 7.72.833)

If you lift your eyes towards sky during prayer you may lose your eyesight…(Sahih Muslim, 4.0862, 0863)

If you find a snake in your house (that may be a jinn (dæmon); remember snakes are non-Muslim jinns) make life difficult for it for three days, and if it goes away (it is a believer in Islam) then fine; if not then kill it because it is a non-believer…(Sahih Muslim, 26.5558)

Ants (myrer!) sing glory of Allah, so do not kill ants; only kill the ants that bite you…(Sahih Muslim, 26.5567, 5568)

Allah will change the face of a man to an ass’s (æsel) face if he lifts his head before the Imam…(Sahih Muslim, 4.0859, 0860, 0861)

The angels do not come near three things. These are: 1. an unbelievers dead body 2. anything perfumed with saffron 3. sexually defiled people…(Sunan Abu Dawud, 33.4168)

“We do not need more reports. We need action.”

Geneva, Dec. 12, 2007 — UN experts reported yesterday to the Human Rights Council that Sudan has failed to live up to its commitments to improve the human rights situation in Darfur. However, Sudan insisted that “the situation is improving,” and complained about “double standards and selectivity.” Supporting Sudan were Pakistan for the Islamic group, and Egypt for the African group, which said that “the international community has failed to truly assist Sudan regarding Darfur.” Malaysia praised Sudan’s “positive engagement” and said Sudan faced “many difficulties” and needed to be “given the time and resources it requires” to implement its obligations.

UN Watch reponded in a speech delivered by Gibreil Hamid, a survivor from Darfur. See full text below.

Geneva, Switzerland, Dec. 11, 2007
UN Watch Speech on Darfur

Thank you, Mr. President.

My name is Gibreil Hamid, I am from Darfur, and I am delivering this statement on behalf of UN Watch.

Many think that the tragedy in Darfur began in 2003. From personal experience, I can testify that this is not the case.

I was born in a small village called Taradona, near Zalinge, in West Darfur. The people were living peacefully until the genocidal regime now in Khartoum seized power in a military coup. It was a black day for the whole country.

In 1989, gunmen attacked my village in the early morning, killing over fifty people from my family. For me, it was the beginning of a nightmare that has lasted eighteen years. Until today, no one knows who committed this atrocity, or why. I can forgive, but I will never forget.

Since 2003, Darfur is known as the worst humanitarian catastrophe on earth. Diplomatic efforts have failed to stop the crimes of the Sudanese government.

We, the victims of Darfur, were hoping so much that this new Human Rights Council would give us a voice, and make a difference in our lives. Yet the genocide continues, and it seems that all this Council does is ask for more reports.

Mr. President, we, the victims of Darfur, come before this council today with a simple message. We do not need more reports. Time is running out. We need action. Our humanitarian situation is critical. Our security situation worsens every day. The Janjaweed are killing and raping us. The innocent civilians of Darfur are in desperate need of protection. We need action, and we need it now.

On behalf of UN Watch and all of the victims of Darfur, I plead before the Council today: please stop adopting resolutions that praise Sudan for its so-called “cooperation.” Please do not eliminate the independent expert on Sudan. Please take action to end the terrible crimes of war.

To all those who are willing to speak out against genocide: May God bless you and give us peace.

Thank you, Mr. President.
