STOCKHOLM, Sweden: Sweden’s nationalist party on Wednesday lashed out at the country’s postal service and one of its competitors for refusing to hand out its campaign material because of safety and policy concerns.
The material — destined for a small municipality in southern Sweden — contained a controversial drawing of the Prophet Muhammad with a dog’s body, made by Swedish artist Lars Vilks.
Sweden Democratic Party Chairman Jimmie Akesson said the move was “a serious threat to the freedom of opinion,” and raised the question of “whether Sweden is worthy to be called a democracy.”
Sweden’s postal service, Posten, declined Monday to distribute the latest issue of the party’s campaign newspaper because of safety concerns for its employees.
